New Android Patch for Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition!
July 26 2019 in Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition
Since Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition launched on Google Play in December last year, we’ve received lots of community feedback- and we've taken note! Thank you to all the players for your reviews, thoughts, and reports.
Today we’re releasing a new patch, which includes a host of bug fixes, major improvements to the gaming experience, and a few big community feature requests.
Our developers went through all of the input Trello cards for NWN:EE on mobile and decided on what was feasible to implement.
We’re thrilled to announce a few top community recommendations are now implemented in NWN:EE on Android:
- Installation to an SD card now available
- Quick-Save button added
- Labels added on all radial menus,
- Improved UI
- Enlarged dialog window,
- Improved log/chat,
- Consistent camera rotation consistent with the PC version,
- Improved instructions for camera modes and joystick operation,
- Implemented the True Type Fonts
- and more!
We’re continuing to work on the PC version of NWN:EE and the new renderer, and hope to share more about that soon.
Full Patch Notes
Summary
- Game data can now be installed to an external SD card.
- Many usability improvements to the HUD, radial menus, inventory panels, area mini-map, and button sizes. Resized the in-game menu bar and moved it to the bottom of the screen. Added a "quick save" button to the HUD.
- Expanded the conversation window width to show more text.
- True Type Fonts are now used throughout the game.
Installation
- [NWN-1159] During installation, ask the user if the game data should be downloaded to internal memory or to an external SD card (if installed). This feature does not migrate any existing data from internal memory to external memory.
Radial Menu
- Labels are now displayed on all radial menus. This was required because players cannot "mouse hover" over each menu item to learn its function.
- [NWN-1063] Tapping outside of the radial menu now closes the menu rather than selecting the nearest menu icon. This is consistent with most mobile game user interfaces.
- Removed the thin white radial band "cursor" from the radial menu because it serves no purpose when tapping.
HUD
- [NWN-1160] Removed the green ground cursor when using the joystick to move. This was visually distracting and served no purpose.
- [NWN-819] Target selection mode now displays a helpful message at the top of the screen indicating that user input is required. For example, when you tap a targetted spell on the quick bar, you will be prompted to tap the spell target.
- The HUD "context button" now recognizes nearby area transition floor triggers.
- The HUD "context button" now displays the correct icon for doors and triggers.
- The HUD "highlight objects" button now has a hilight to indicate when it is active.
- Removed the large compass from the HUD to provide screen space for new buttons. The in-game date/time is now displayed whenever the game is paused.
- Moved the HUD party menu from the right side of the screen to the bottom. A new toggle button alternates between the party bar and the log window. This change improves the look of the screen and allowed us to add more buttons.
- Added a button to the HUD which allows the player to quickly toggle the log window on/off to reduce visual clutter.
- Added a quicksave button to the HUD.
- [NWN-837] Character portrait and companion portraits don't line up. This is no longer an issue with the new HUD layout.
- Removed the Desktop shortcut text ("Ctrl-F1") from the Quickbar.
Conversations
- [NWN-1058] Conversation hilights players who are not speaking.
- Enlarged the dialog window so that more text is displayed. Previously we enlarged the font without changing the window size so less text was displayed.
Chat
- [NWN-915] Removed the talk bar from the HUD. Instead, a new button on the expanded party bar displays a popup window where text is entered. Also added a dedicated Chat shortcut button to the HUD; this button only appears in multiplayer games when the Chat Log is visible.
- [NWN-843] Since text is now entered into a larger window, the text is no longer obscured by the Android keyboard.
- Increased the size of the Chat Log window resize grip to make it easier to resize the Chat Log window.
- Fixed an occaisional text line "clipping leak" which caused text at the top of the Chat Log window to be drawn outside of the window frame.
- Fixed an issue where text lines within the split Chat Log window were clipped on the right hand side. This was particularly noticable in multiplayer games.
- Increased the font size of the Chat Log window text on phones.
Camera
- [NWN-1177] Inverted camera rotation to be consistent with NWN desktop and with most other mobile games. Added an INI file setting called "CameraRotateDirection" which has a default value of -1. If you want to reverse the camera rotation direction, you can set this value to 1.
- Redesigned the three camera modes to include a mode without the virtual joystick. This solves the problem where some players wanted a joystick toggle option.
- Reworked the tutorial module to describe the camera modes and joystick operation better.
Area Map
- Increased the size of all area map pins so that they are easier to tap.
- Removed the area map zoom buttons because the enlarged button sizes no longer fit on the smaller map window sizes. Instead of two small buttons, a single large button now cycles through all three zoom levels.
- [NWN-874] Tapping an area map pin now displays its name. Use long-press to edit or delete.
- [NWN-835] Increased the size of the map pin place button and require players to drag/drop pins instead of the old error-prone two-step-tap method.
Quickbar
- Removed the quickbar's transparent ends because they were ugly.
- Shifted the quickbar position up a few pixels to account for screens with beveled edges.
- [NWN-1061] The log window no longer scrolls when filling quickslots by dragging items from inventory.
- [NWN-1074] HUD pause button was difficult to tap on some devices. The pause button has been enlarged and moved to a more accessible location.
Button Sizes
- [NWN-1171] X buttons on all menus are larger and easier to tap.
- [NWN-1175] Enlarged UI scaling buttons so that they are easier to tap.
- [NWN-908] Enlarged ability and skill assignment buttons so that they are easier to tap.
Options
- Keyhole Disolve can now be toggled on/off via a new setting in the "Advanced Frame Buffer" options menu.
- [NWN-1172] The "Sharpen Shader" option in the "Advanced Frame Buffer" menu now works.
Fonts
- [NWN-1035] TTF fonts are now used for all text in the game. This greatly improves the text appearance throughout the game menus.
- [NWN-1035] Turning off anti-aliasing turns off TTF. This is no longer possible since only TTF fonts are used in the game.
Other
- [NWN-1062] The contents of the multiplayer History|Favorites tabs were not saved.
- [NWN-1071] Some console commands, such as "dm_dumparealocals," were not working.
- [NWN-1178] Improved inventory window tapping, making it easier to tap on items to see the names rather than starting a drag operation immediately.
- [NWN-1052] EndGame("") displays an error message [Can't Open Move ".wbm" Movie must be in webm format, and have the suffic ".wbm"]
- [NWN-1040][NWN-1042-1047][NWN-1057] Fixed several achievements that were not unlocked properly.
- [NWN-1014] Scale the nwsync download progress window to match the UI scale.
- Fixed issue with Prelude so that navigation lights disappear properly.
